Happy Easter

We planned to take Caleb to Washington Park for their annual Easter Egg Hunt which features 10,000 hidden Easter eggs, but the forecast said 40 degrees and rain (plus we watched a video on YouTube of the event last year and there were WAY too many fools out there), so instead we took him to the Children's Museum to participate in their Easter celebration.  He had the best time making his bunny nose, dying eggs, and playing with the other kids. Mommy and Daddy were tired just watching him run around.

Even though we did some Easter celebrating at the museum, Caleb's heart was still set on an Easter egg hunt, so we dyed some eggs of our own and had a mini hunt in the backyard.  Daddy did a good job hiding the eggs, but our little man found them all in no time.  The egg he found when he stepped on it was by far the best, he thought it was hilarious.  Easter turned out to be a really great family day, and since we had such a good time we plan to make Easter egg hunts a family tradition in our home from now on. Hopefully Caleb will enjoy this as much when he's 16 as he does now!

Big Boy Bicycle

It seems like it was only yesterday that we were posting pictures of our first family bicycle ride, and now Caleb is riding his very own big boy bicycle. We can't believe how fast time passes.

The weather has been pretty bad for a while, so we've been taking Cae into the basement to ride his tiny tricycle around.  Of course he mastered it in about two days, and was pedaling so fast that we were scared if we didn't get him something bigger he was going to get hurt. So, we all headed to the bike shop to pick out Caleb's big boy bicycle. We were surprised that they actually had bikes small enough to fit Caleb, and everyone in the store was shocked that he was only two and riding them. There were a couple to choose from, mommy liked an orange radio flyer and daddy liked the plain blue one, but Caleb, being the little individual he is, chose the bright green one with stars and rockets. Auntie loves that the song, "Heartbreaker" is playing in the background.

We know it looks like we intentionally chose the matching helmet, but really it was the only kids helmet that would fit Caleb's generously sized head, and it just so happened to match perfectly.  As soon as we got the bike home we went on a ride to the park (about 3 miles round trip) and Caleb was amazing. He had no fear. Isn't it amazing how quickly he went from putting around the store to zooming down the street?

We made it all the way to the park before we had the accident. Caleb was going a bit too fast down the hill and took a header right into the pavement.  His helmet got the most of it, but it still scratched him up pretty bad.  Caleb was such a big boy though, he got right back on the bike and rode it all the way home....

And then he refused to ride it again for a couple weeks. Thankfully Auntie came out to visit and saved the day. She convinced Cae to get back on and let him chase her all the way back to the park. Ever since that day he's back to loving his bike again. Hopefully with summer just around the corner we wont have any more accidents, and at least we have another year or so before we need to take off the training wheels. Yikes!
