Our son has found Jesus at just 20 months old. The carpet cleaner at Geby's made the introduction that changed his life. Yes we said carpet cleaner and yes we are serious. Really, we don't make this stuff up. It's just too strange not to be true...
The details are still a bit hazy since mommy and daddy were not present, but from what we've learned apparently the carpet cleaner was a very Christian man who happened to have the spirit move him as he cleaned Geby's house. Caleb, being the ever observant little boy that he is, heard him preaching and singing and was moved right along with him. He has since begun spreading the good word to all who will listen.
His words of choice are Jesus and Hallelujah. He says and sings them all the time, in the car, at night as he falls asleep, and yesterday he belted them out with Geby as he played the toy piano. He also thought it would be funny to yell at the top of his lungs, "HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH" as we walked through a very crowded downtown Denver at the chalk art festival. Fortunately daddy was carrying him on his shoulders so he got most of the looks and stares. Mommy walked away and pretend she didn't know them.
Most of the time he says these words in song or when he he's happy, but we suspect the carpet cleaner also taught him how to use them the wrong way. One morning we were running late to meet Geby and as we were walking out the door Cae claimed he needed to go potty. Mommy told him we could go back inside to potty but then we would be late for Geby.* Cae threw his arms up in the air and said, "Je - sus." Not exactly holy, but kind-of funny.
The lesson here, we guess, is that kids are very impressionable so be careful what and when you preach around them.
_____
* Mommy was hesitant to go back inside not because she is horrible and wanted Cae to sit in pee all day, but because Cae makes quite a few false potty claims since we began potty training. He either tells us he has to go when he doesn't to avoid doing something, or tells us after he goes and thinks it's hilarious that he tricked us. He knows exactly what he's doing.
